The apple sawfly traps are an effective way of trapping and monitoring sawfly. Monitoring the adult sawfly allows for accurate detection of the pest population and therefore accurate timing of pest control applications.

Sawfly are 4-5 mm long with the head and thorax being blackish brown in colour.
It is important to protect apple and plums from the sawfly as they lay eggs at the base of the flowers which after petal fall, hatch and the larvae bore into the core of the fruitlets.
This feeding damage causes the affected fruit to drop in early summer.
The sawfly traps are simple to use and effective, they should be in place from early April until June.
